Tattoo Removal at Luxelaser

Fade unwanted ink with careful treatment planning, realistic expectations, and clear aftercare.

Laser tattoo removal is a professional treatment used to lighten or remove unwanted tattoo ink over time. It can suit clients who want to fade an old tattoo, clear space for new work, or treat selected cosmetic tattoos such as brows or lip liner after a careful assessment. Black and dark blue inks often respond best, while green, yellow, white, and some bright shades can take more sessions or may not fully clear. Sessions vary from one tattoo to the next, and many clients need multiple treatments spaced several weeks apart. If you have been searching for laser light tattoo removal, this is the treatment most people mean.

THE SCIENCE

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Laser tattoo removal uses focused light energy to target tattoo pigment in the skin. The laser breaks the ink into smaller particles, then your body clears those fragments gradually in the weeks after treatment. That is why fading does not happen all at once, and why multiple sessions are normal. Professional tattoo laser treatment is usually spaced out to give your skin time to heal and your body time to process the broken-down pigment.

Step 1 — Laser targets ink

The light is aimed at the tattoo pigment, not at the tattoo as a whole. Different colours may need different settings or may respond at different speeds.

Step 2 — Ink breaks into smaller particles

The energy shatters pigment into much smaller fragments than before.

Step 3 — Your body clears it over time

Your immune system helps carry away those tiny fragments, which is why fading continues after the appointment rather than only during it.

TREATMENT ZONES

What Affects Tattoo Removal Results

No two tattoos respond in exactly the same way. These are some of the biggest things that affect tattoo removal results.

rectangle 33

Ink colour

Black and dark blue usually respond best to laser tattoo removal because they absorb light more readily. Green, yellow, orange, white, and some mixed bright shades are often slower or harder to clear.

Tattoo age

Older tattoos sometimes respond a little faster because some pigment has already faded with time. Newer tattoos can still be treated, but the pigment may be denser and more saturated.

Professional vs amateur tattoos

Professional tattoos often sit deeper in the skin and contain more densely packed pigment, so they may need more sessions. Amateur tattoos are often placed more superficially and can respond faster.

Tattoo size and density

Large tattoos, cover-up tattoos, layered work, and heavily packed designs usually take longer than small, simple pieces because there is more ink to break down and clear.

Skin tone and skin response

Darker skin can still be treated, but laser settings and planning matter. Extra care helps lower the risk of pigment change and other side effects because epidermal melanin can compete with tattoo ink for the laser energy.

This is why a proper consultation matters so much. Good tattoo removal services should never treat every tattoo the same way.

What to Expect at Luxelaser

Here’s how appointments usually go.

background+border (4)

Consultation and skin assessment

Your appointment starts with a close look at the tattoo, your skin, and your goal. We talk about tattoo age, colours, location, medical history, skin response, and if you want full removal or fading for a cover-up.

background+border (5)

Patch test when needed

A patch test may be useful for darker skin, reactive skin, cosmetic pigment, or tattoos with a higher chance of an unusual response. This gives extra information before full treatment.

background+border (6)

Treatment day

The area is cleaned, protective steps are taken, laser settings are chosen for your tattoo and skin, and the treatment is carried out carefully. Cooling and aftercare guidance follow straight after.

background+border (7)

Healing period

Mild redness, swelling, frosting, tenderness, blistering, crusting, or scabbing can happen after treatment. Fading then continues gradually over the following weeks, which is one reason sessions are spaced apart. At Luxelaser, the aim is simple: clear communication, a sensible plan, and no false promises.

I truly enjoyed my experience and was very happy with the service! Nancy examined my skin thoroughly and explained everything I needed to know about my skin concerns and how to take better care of it. She then suggested a treatment plan that suited my skin and was incredibly knowledgeable throughout the whole process. I had a Deep sea peel and Nancy took such great care of my skin. She made sure it was properly prepped and regularly checked in on me throughout the treatment to make sure I was comfortable. I was so satisfied with the experience and the results. Thank you so much, Nancy! 😊

I really liked the service. I was very well taken care of. I was apprehensive because the last time I had laser treatment I felt pain, but she was very careful, I didn't feel any pain at all. I highly recommend her.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are asking how much does laser tattoo removal cost, the answer depends on the tattoo size, colour mix, ink density, body area, and the number of sessions needed. Small tattoos usually cost less per visit than large or layered work, but a consultation gives the clearest quote because tattoo removal is not as predictable as many other skin treatments.

It can be uncomfortable. Many people describe laser tattoo removal as feeling like a snapping rubber band or a hot flick on the skin. Some body areas are easier than others, and comfort support may be used where suitable.

Each session is usually quite short for small tattoos, but full treatment takes time because fading happens over weeks after each visit. Most people need multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart, and larger or brighter tattoos can take much longer overall.

There is no single number that fits every tattoo. Some tattoos fade in a smaller series of sessions, while others need many more. Professional tattoos, dense ink, cover-ups, and difficult colours often need extra visits. Older reviews from the FDA note that removal may take 6 to 10 treatments, and other medical sources note that some tattoos need more than that.

Scarring is possible, but it is not the goal and it is not expected in every case. Risk rises with poor healing, picking the area, infection, or treatment that is not well planned. There is also a chance of temporary or longer-lasting pigment change in the skin.

Pain levels vary by person, tattoo location, and ink density. Many clients say it is quick but sharp. Smaller tattoos are often easier to handle simply because the treatment time is shorter.

Current expert statements do not show definite proof that laser tattoo removal causes cancer. It is still important to choose a properly trained provider and have a real consultation before treatment.

When done by a trained health care professional, laser tattoo removal can be safe and effective. Like any medical skin procedure, it still comes with risks and needs proper assessment, especially for darker skin tones, cosmetic tattoos, or clients with a history of strong skin reactions.

It should be taken seriously, but that does not mean it is unsafe by default. The main concerns are pain, blistering, infection, pigment change, incomplete removal, and scarring if the treatment or aftercare goes badly.

Many clinics space sessions at least several weeks apart so the skin can heal and the body has time to clear broken-down pigment. DermNet notes spacing of at least 7 weeks for some laser systems.

Laser tattoo removal is generally not advised during pregnancy. The American Academy of Dermatology says pregnant or breastfeeding women should not be treated.

As a practical rule, clinics usually avoid treating directly over tattooed skin. Hair-removal lasers target pigment, and that means tattoo ink can also absorb energy, which raises the chance of skin injury or pigment change. That point follows from how pigment-based lasers work and from known laser risks such as burns and skin colour change.
