Laser Hair Removal – Is It a Permanent Solution?

What Permanent hair Reduction Really Means!

Laser hair removal has become a very popular cosmetic treatment to get a glassy, clean and hygienic skin. People often select laser treatment for achieving long-lasting results. So they find it as an alternative to waxing, shaving and threading. There are different forms of hair removal methods. In the temporary removal process, the portion of the hair above the skin is removed, but in the permanent removal process, the full hair from the hair follicle itself is removed. Persistent doubt remains on its permanency. It can be assured that Laser causes damage only to the basal stem cells of the hair follicle( which causes growth). Before booking your appointment, make sure you know how it works.

What Permanent Hair Reduction Really Means!

Electrolysis is the method used for permanent reduction. It is a lasting reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after treatment sessions. It is a cosmetic treatment where electric current is used to destroy hair follicles in the treatment area. Luxelaser Skin Clinic uses Candela Laser with Zimmer(cool air) attached to it, to make the treatment more comfortable. The target matter(melanin) in hair follicles absorbs light energy from the laser beam and changes it into heat energy; this in turn heats the basal stem cells of the hair follicle and prevents future growth of it. Eventually, the damaged hair follicle sheds, and the skin looks smooth, glassy, clean and hygienic. It can be used for different body parts such as,

  •  Face
  •  legs
  • Underarm
  •  Bikini
  •  Back
  •  Chest
  •  full body

The number of procedural sessions required depends on customer needs as well as the nature of the hair to get optimal results. Most of them will require 10-12 sessions to get the best result.

Steps of the Laser Hair Removal Process

1. Firstly, you have to book an appointment to meet your laser technician. In the course of this session, ask about your medical history and discuss your treatment expectations. This ensures personalised and quality care and helps to understand your skin type and hair characteristics. It helps to decide which is the most suitable laser beam for your skin tone and hair colour. Your therapist uses pre- and post-treatment images to compare the results, to get more clarity and confidence in the treatment process. You should not expose your skin to the sun or ultraviolet radiation because it makes your skin darker (tanning). Sunbathing and the use of certain skincare products will not be allowed. You should shave the targeted area to be treated two days before the session starts. Shaving ensures the removal of the hair shaft but does not affect the follicle. Make sure that you are not wearing moisturiser, roll-on underarm or deodorant before the treatment session.

Best for Oily, congested, enlarged pores, acne-prone skin
How it works Uses activated charcoal and exfoliation to deeply cleanse and detoxify
Typical time 45–60 minutes per session
Downtime Usually none, temporary redness may occur

2. The process starts with the cleaning of the procedure site and applying a cooling gel to protect the skin. You will be getting Protective eyewear to cover your eyes from the laser beam. This keeps your eye protected.  A handheld laser device is used to target the hair follicles in the targeted area. The laser beam that emits from the device penetrates the skin. It is absorbed by the basal stem cells of the hair follicle and destroys them in the affected area. The time scale of the session depends on the size of the affected area. If the area is small, it may take only a few minutes, but in the case of a larger area, it may take up to an hour.

3. To get the best results, the laser hair removal process should be repeated several times. The number of cycles varies according to the skin type, hair growth and the area for the treatment. Some people, who have sensitive skin, may experience little after effects like,

  • Redness
  •  itching
  • acne
  • discoloration
  • swelling of the follicle around the treated area

These effects can be seen after the Laser Hair Removal process. It lasts only for two or three days. Follow the advice of your therapist.

Remember the following;

After the laser hair removal, it is mandatory to take care of the treated area at home.

  •  Keep an ice pack covered by a clean cotton cloth or tissue paper on the area if it shows redness or swelling.
  •  Avoid exposing the affected area to sunlight, heat and save your skin from irritation.
  • Keep the procedure site cool and hydrated by using soothing gel, suggested lotion or moisturiser.
  • Cleaning can be done with lukewarm water and low PH, fragrance-free soap, then wiped with a clean, soft cotton cloth.
  • Always remember to wear loose and soft clothes to make the skin friction-free.

People who have undergone the treatment must avoid using makeup, any kind of harsh products, for a few days to ensure the best results.
